Abstract
Dear colleagues!
This issue of the journal "Clinical and Experimental Surgery" is entirely devoted to the fundamental and clinical aspects of sudden death. Most sudden deaths are cardiovascular. The appearance of external, and then implantable, antiarrhythmic devices revolutionized the concept of the sudden cardiac death as a potentially reversible and preventable condition, but did not solve the problem completely. Despite impressive technical achievements, new insights about diverse risk factors, appearance of specialized recommendations for the sudden death prevention, the prevalence of this phenomenon is consistently high. A variety of causes, including genetic one, and non-obviousness of the pathophysiological mechanisms of sudden cardiac death make this problem one of the most studied in the modern medicine.
Aim of this issue is to present the diversity of approaches in the field of the sudden death and the results of its practical prevention.
